BetDEX is a decentralized sports betting exchange built on Solana, using the open-source Monaco Protocol to match and settle back/lay bets directly on-chain rather than against a house book. It was founded in November 2021 by a team of former FanDuel executives — including Nigel Eccles, Varun Sudhakar and Stuart Tonner — and raised a sizable seed round backed by Paradigm, Solana Ventures and others, giving it more institutional pedigree than most projects in this category.

How the exchange model works

Unlike a traditional sportsbook, BetDEX doesn't set its own odds or take the other side of your bet. It's a genuine peer-to-peer betting exchange: you can back an outcome or lay it (bet against it), and the Monaco Protocol's on-chain program matches and settles positions between users. Because it's non-custodial, funds are not held in a BetDEX account balance — users keep control of their own wallet throughout. BetDEX takes a platform fee of roughly 3% only on net winnings, with nothing charged on losing bets, which is a more transparent structure than a built-in odds margin. The platform also states it places no restrictions on winning bettors, an exchange-style policy that's rare among conventional sportsbooks.

Pros

  • Real on-chain, non-custodial exchange with no house-side counterparty settlement risk
  • Transparent fee structure — a cut of net winnings only, nothing on losing bets
  • Built by an experienced former-FanDuel team with credible backing

Cons

  • Thinner liquidity and market depth than larger, established exchanges, especially on niche sports
  • No independently confirmed smart-contract audit that we could verify — don't assume one exists
  • Verification tier thresholds aren't clearly published on the platform's own site

Platform & custody notes

BetDEX is non-custodial by design — bets settle peer-to-peer on-chain via the Monaco Protocol rather than being held in a BetDEX-controlled balance. It has operated since late 2021, which is a reasonable track record for an on-chain exchange but still short relative to established centralized books. Given the thinner liquidity reported by independent reviews, confirm current market depth for the sports and bet sizes you care about, along with any verification requirements, directly on betdex.com before depositing.

Our verdict

BetDEX is a genuinely on-chain, non-custodial exchange with a fair fee structure and a credible founding team, making it a solid pick for bettors who want exchange-style betting without a centralized counterparty. If deep liquidity on niche markets matters most to you, compare current order-book depth before committing meaningful size.
